Tested in Deep Woods Florida Swamps
I do a lot of deep woods walking / hiking in central Florida swampy areas, and this works great!I don't use chemical aerosols as I really dislike the fumes. Deet sort of spritzes provided the best solution for years. Even with those, I felt myself racing for a shower when I got home as the smell annoys me. Also, while mosquitoes generally would not land, they'd still buzz me constantly which is almost as annoying. With the Murphy's balm, I seem almost invisible to mosquitoes. I've tested on multiple hikes including deep woods in a swampy area. I even see mosquitoes, but they simply don't bother with me. I use it on my arms, neck, face and ears without the irritating odor.I personally love the smell. For me, it's practically an aromatherapy and gets me going but tastes there may vary. Reading the ingredients will give you a very strong idea of the scent, but I imagine nearly everyone will either not mind it or even enjoy it.There's no trade-off with the chemical sprays. I typically figure the natural stuff is more pleasant but Deet stuff will work better. That is not the case here. It works better than the chemicals for me and in relatively extreme, woodsy-swampy rural environments.

BEST THING EVER
LOVE this product. So easy to use and apply on the kids. Keeps the pesky mosquitos away and we also use it once you get a bite! Would definitely buy again and I recommend it to EVERYONE!

One caveat
Used for the first time on a three hour hike Friday in a swampy forest. My first thoughts: Smells great, easy to apply, works well against mosquitoes and the small flies I encountered. No way to evaluate performance with black flies, deer flies or ticks since I didn’t encounter any.Used it for the second time on a trip to the zoo yesterday. No bugs bothered me. However, I got a rash this morning where the stuff had been applied yesterday.I will have to see what happens next time. The first time I used it, I showered off when I got home. The second time, I did not shower. Perhaps that made the difference between getting a rash or not.

I think it works? Barely got bit in Paris
I was in Paris during the Olympics and those European mosquitos love the fatty American blood!I'm also allergic to their bites and the bites get so much worse on me compared to a regular person. It turns into a big fat welt and causes hyperpigmentation.I reapplied this thing as frequently as I could! It smells so good too so I didn't mind at all. My coworkers even asked me what perfume I was wearing and I was telling them it wasn't perfume, but mosquitos repellent lolI didn't just use this though. I also used Brooke's mosquito repellent soap bar and it smells so good and I think the combo of a body soap with citronella and this really worked!I was out and about during the Olympics and it was hot and humid and full of mosquitoes and bugs so this will be my go to combo whenever I am out

5 for effectiveness! 3 for packaging!
I am a mosquito magnet and this absolutely works. I applied it in spots to arms and legs, and that was sufficient to protect me from bites. While the packaging is convenient, it makes application difficult, especially if you have nails.

All-natural stuff that really works
Mosquitoes love me. In 15 minutes letting my dog relieve herself, I can get 10 mosquito bites. I’ve learned to cover up so I don’t need as much repellant. But citronella doesn’t work for me. The first day I went out with this, I covered the back of palm of my hands but not the fingers. I got bitten only on the finger! Now I cover the entire hands and no bites. This stuff really works and is the only thing Amazon has without any harmful ingredients. Thank you!

Excellent for Travel
We've used Murphy's Mosquito Balm in the past with great success. Stumbled across the stick option when searching for travel friendly mosquito repellent options. I wanted to avoid aerosols and any liquids if possible. The balm sticks work as well as the small tins but are easier to apply. They pack and travel well. I put one of the extra sticks in my son's camping gear for Boy Scouts.

Travel friendly and highly effective!
I am truly delicious (to mosquitoes and black flies) and had heard that midges can be pretty bad in Scotland. Flying meant I needed something solid, if possible, so I got some deet-filled, standard bug-spray type wipes and the Murphy's Mosquito Balm Stick (2-pack). We were mostly fine until we went to the Fairy Pools (beautiful! go!). The moment we exited our vehicle we were swarmed like I've never been before! Into our eyes, ears, nose, biting every square inch of exposed skin. I scrambled into my day-bag for something, anything to help and grabbed this stuff. I ended up trapping more than a few bugs as I smeared it on, but we were instantly distasteful and the midges left us entirely alone. It was extraordinary! I shared it with many of our travel mates, too. Application is super easy and means no greasy fingers.
