Quilter-approved — even in exile from my craft space
I use this for quilting, and it does exactly what I need: stays hot, steams well, and glides smoothly. The water tank is generous, so I’m not constantly stopping to refill it mid-project. It does make the iron a bit heavier when full, but I’ll take the extra weight if it means I can keep working without constant interruptions. The retractable cord is a lifesaver — I’ve become a nomad crafter since my college kid and her cat took over my basement workspace. If you need a solid, no-fuss iron that holds up to real use, this one works. It’s not fancy, but it earns its spot.

Recommend
The Hamilton Beach Steam Iron offers excellent value for the money. I purchased my second one after owning the first for six years—and even though the original still works, it developed a minor leak due to being dropped multiple times over the years. Despite that wear and tear, its longevity and consistent performance impressed me enough to buy another. If you’re looking for a reliable, budget-friendly iron that withstands daily use (and the occasional accident), I highly recommend this product. Durability and functionality make it a worthwhile investment!

Pros & Cons List Here! Great for Beginners
This model is great for beginner and intermediate sewing. Instructions are a little vague, but once you play with it a couple times it is very easy to use. Cuts my sewing time in half. Call the manufacturer if you have any issues, they will gladly help.Pros:1.Heats up FAST2.Perfect weight, not too heavy to cause wrist pain but heavy enough that you don’t have to press down like smaller models3.Retractable cord helps with cleanup time4. Easy to clean and store5.Steam Output is very affective and does not overly wet down garments. Very controllable6. Balanced properly to sit on its bottom so you can put it down without a mat under it/without it tipping overCons (and Tips to Minimalize!)1. Instructions are vague, I had to play with it to figure out why water was going straight through it when I poured it in according to the max fill line.(Turn it to the “No Steam” Setting on the roller dial before adding water! Switch to steam AFTER the iron is heated)2.Be careful with the retractable cord, don’t try to retract the whole thing at once or it will jam. (Hold the cord straight gently while it retracts to avoid twists or stops!)

Good Retractable Cord
Retractable cord is a nice feature. The chrome is cheap, but doesn't effect the operation of the iron. It worked just fine. I didn't put water in it and use a bottle for spritzing so don't care if it leaks or not. The unit might not, but that seems to be a common complaint among these cheap irons. It stores in a drawer compactly because of the retractable cord and that's why I bought it.

A lot of features for the price
This is an inexpensive steam iron, almost perfect, read below.1- It has a long cord, 8' as described. Really nice, since most irons come with a puny 3-6' cord.2- Cord RETRACTS all the way in. Really remarkable. Most irons that say "retractable" only retract up to the last 1-3"3- Compact size, not too heavy, shiny iron plate4- Has an ON/OFF setting on the dial. I am leery of "auto off function"--what if this feature fails? Plus, I don't like just leaving the iron plugged in if I'm not using and accidentally fry the plug, whatever.5- does NOT LEAK, as one reviewer notes (he must have gotten a lemon). I tested, and my iron does not leak water with the water reservoir filled to the max. Those are the pros. Now the CONS:1- the amount of water it holds is smaller than some irons, which means more fill ups if you use the steam function2- the initial heat up of iron isn't fast as advertised. I found it rather slow, compared to the B&D iron3- the steam and HEATING power is underwhelming. It does heat up, but it seems like it takes 4-5 minutes to pick up speed compared to the comparable B&D iron, which heats up in 30 seconds4- the DIAL for the heat settings is hard to read because of colored plastic background, which obscures the print (use a LIGHT COLOR or transparent plastic so the writing jumps out at you)5-some cosmetic features that make the iron look cheap: example, the lid for the water reservoir is a silver-chrome plated paint. It's plastic, not metal. You are not fooling anyone. Just keep it a neutral plastic color.Overall, I probably would not buy again because of the underwhelming heat functions, but there are some great features as noted above, and for the price point, I chose it and will live with it until it dies on me.
